The Rules You Never Chose
Somewhere along the way, you picked up a set of rules about how life works and how you're supposed to move through it. Rules like: Don't be a burden. Stay busy or you're lazy. If you show weakness, people will lose respect for you. Don't get too confident. Always put others first. What are the unspoken rules you live by? The ones you follow automatically, not because you chose them, but because they were handed to you so early or so often that they feel like facts rather than rules. Pick one of these rules and examine it. Where did it come from? Who taught it to you — and did they teach it on purpose, or did you absorb it by watching? Does this rule still serve you, or has it become a cage you didn't realize you were living in?
