What You Actually Need · Part Four • 1

The Need You Carry

Underneath everything you've explored in this journal — the roles, the patterns, the conflict, the withdrawal — there is a need. Maybe more than one, but there's usually one that matters more than the rest. What do you need most from the people closest to you? Not the practical things — not help with tasks or logistical support — but the emotional thing. The thing that, when you have it, makes you feel safe and whole in a relationship. And the thing that, when it's missing, makes you feel like something essential has been taken away. Maybe it's to be truly seen — not the curated version, but the real one. Maybe it's to be chosen, consistently and without ambiguity. Maybe it's to feel safe enough to stop performing. Maybe it's to matter — to know that your presence makes a difference in someone's life. Name it. Even if it feels vulnerable to write down. Especially then.
